What do you want to be when you grow up?

We've been asking Maryn the "what she wants to be when she grows up" question for the past 2 years. Yeah, I know, we're starting early. Matt really wants her to be an engineer and I don't care what she chooses as long as she goes to college and finishes. When she was a little younger she would tell me she wanted to be a doctor or a nurse or whatever she was pretending to be at the moment. Since then it's changed and she has only one thing she wants to be.

This last weekend Matt had to work and Maryn begged to go. Matt gave in and took Maryn in for a couple of hours. I armed her with activities to do because Matt's job is a thinking job. When they got home I asked if Maryn had fun. She said no it was boring. Then Matt asked her so are you going to be an engineer like Daddy when you grow up? She huffed and said "Dad, I've already told you, I'm going to be a mommy! Stop asking me!"

And, I didn't even have to pay her off to say that :)

First Steps

My baby took her first steps last Thursday. We were all in the family room and Macey was next to me and I was watching her but didn't realize what was going on. Something just didn't seem right until we realized she was taking her first steps. Macey started walking from the couch and took about 4 steps. She looked like she was creeping around or a little Igor. She was so excited at her fourth step she let out a loud squeal then dropped to the ground in a fit of giggling! We practiced with her a little more and Daddy had the grand idea to have her walk toward the couch that had the wood trim on the bottom of it. She didn't make contact with the couch but her head did. Needless to say she has been reluctant to try since then BUT she walked by herself!

Last Pay it Forward

I finally got my last pay it forward done. I love making things for people and even better if I have an excuse to do it. Sometimes I wonder if people think I'm weird because I'll show up on their doorstep with cookies or goodies for no reason other than I wanted to. Yes, odd behavior, but that's ME! Have a great weekend everyone!

Unwelcomed Guest

Dear Unwelcomed Guest,

I didn't invite you and you still end up eating a whole row of my carrots. Why couldn't you have eaten the squash? I was very careful this year so I could have my carrots perfect. I spaced them like I was supposed to, unlike last year where we had artistic carrots from lack of growing room. I hope you get sick from all the yummy carrots that you devoured.

Thanks a lot!
The Gardener

I thought this only happened in cartoons. Every carrot I picked I had a vision that there would be a rodent attached to the end! Other carrots weren't so lucky they were sucked down the hole. If you see fat rodents running around the Murdock property be sure to call the garden police...they have committed a crime!

Up Close and Personal

Macey wanted to get a little up close and personal with the camera. I actually got a decent picture of her eyes. For those of you don't know Macey has 2 different color eyes. We sometimes call her steely because one of her eyes are darker than the other. There is only 1 person in the last 10 months that has noticed it because the light was hitting her just right. Other than that you would never know that she has very unique eyes. So I guess she'll have the best of both worlds...green and brown eyes. She has quite the sense of humor...she likes to go on the kitchen floor and spin herself silly in circles. That's what I caught her doing in these pictures before she decided to attack the camera.

Donut Falls

The family went on a day hike up Big Cottonwood Canyon. My friend always knows where all these cool hikes are and she blogged about Donut Falls so we looked it up and went ourselves. The further we drove up Big Cottonwood the colder it got but it was pretty nice for a hiking day. We strapped Macey in and we were off. When we got to the Falls I stayed with the girls while Matt went rock climbing into the falls. He looked like spiderman jumping from one rock to the next. He took the camera and videotaped inside the grotto so we could see what it looked like. There was a little part where we had to cross the river on some trees and Maryn was terrified but on the way back she gained her confidence. We never got to do this as a family growing up and I love going on hikes and picnics.

First Day of Preschool

I never thought we would make it to this point in Miss Maryn's life but she is officially going to preschool. Last week was her first day. I have to tell ya it was the weirdest thing dropping her off knowing I would have no clue what would happen in the next 2 hours and leaving her with a highly recommended stranger uh I mean teacher. I'm finding after she comes home from school it takes me the next day to pry out of her what she did in class. She gives me bits and pieces I just have to figure out what questions to ask her in order for her to answer. It's almost like talking to a guy...you have to phrase the question just right in order to get the answer that suffices if that makes sense. So far she is enjoying school and it has made it 100 times easier to get her ready in the morning if she knows she going to school. She even sets her clothes out for the next day. This will take some getting used to but I'm excited to see her excited to learn.
